MOUNT VERNON — The Area Development Foundation announces the appointment of Emily Shipley as the downtown experience coordinator.

This newly established position marks a significant step forward in enhancing the vibrancy and vitality of the villages in Knox County. The position is made possible through the funding of the Knox County Foundation (KCF) and the Knox County commissioners.

In her role as downtown experience coordinator, Shipley will collaborate closely with merchant groups and officials to enhance economic development efforts. She will do that through engaging events, business development, and physical improvements aimed at providing more opportunities for residents, attracting visitors, and fostering a sense of community.

The overall goal is to elevate the downtown experience throughout Knox County’s four major villages.

Building upon a history of successful collaboration between the ADF and the KCF for economic development in the county’s villages, Shipley’s appointment marks another milestone in their joint mission.

Previous efforts include developing strategic plans for each village. Those plans resulted in the revitalization of local businesses, infrastructure improvements, and community engagement initiatives. This continued partnership underscores the commitment of both organizations to sustainable growth and prosperity for all corners of Knox County.

“Emily’s appointment represents a natural progression in our ongoing efforts to drive economic vitality and community collaboration across Knox County,” said Jeff Gottke, President of ADF. “Her passion and vision will undoubtedly strengthen our collective impact on the region.”

Expressing her enthusiasm for her new role, Shipley said, “I am thrilled to embark on this journey to elevate the downtown experience in Knox County. Together with our community partners, I am committed to creating vibrant spaces where everyone feels welcome and inspired.”
