May 17 event will celebrate 60 years of Head Start Services in Knox County

MOUNT VERNON – The community is invited to join us in celebrating 60 years of Head Start’s transformative services in Knox County.
This milestone event will bring together current and former children, families, employees, and community partners for an afternoon of fun, reflection, and togetherness.
The celebration will take place on Saturday, May 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Lakes at Ariel-Foundation Park in Mount Vernon. The event is free and open to all, with a variety of activities for guests of all ages.
The festivities include a bounce house, petting zoo, fishing, games, fire truck tour, park tours, and much more.
It’s the perfect opportunity to reconnect with friends, share memories, and celebrate the positive impact Head Start has had on our community.
Lunch will be provided, featuring hot dogs courtesy of The Exchange Club of Mount Vernon and Knox County. Guests can also enjoy popcorn and sno-cones throughout the event.
“We are excited to honor six decades of service in Knox County. Beginning with a committee of residents working together at First Congregational Church in April 1965, to the first program at Columbia School that summer, Knox County Head Start has partnered with families and our community supporting children’s health, nutrition, learning and school readiness, and strengthening families.” said Peg Tazewell, Executive Director, Knox County Head Start, Inc.].
“This event is a wonderful way to bring everyone together to celebrate the lasting impact of Head Start, and we are grateful to the many organizations and individuals who have supported us over the years.”
