Lisa Lloyd, Senior Program Director at the Knox County Foundation, announces scholarship awards while Kara Ernsberger, Program Coordinator, presents a scholarship to an East Knox High School student.
The Knox County Foundation has awarded more than $1.3 million in scholarships to 484 students for the 2026–2027 academic year, continuing its long-standing commitment to supporting educational opportunities throughout Knox County and beyond.
This year’s scholarship awards totaled $1,303,650 and supported students across multiple categories, including high school seniors, current college students, non-traditional students, and adult graduate students.
Of the total recipients, 217 were high school seniors receiving a combined $433,400 in scholarships, while 241 college students received $770,350 in support. Additional awards were provided to non-traditional and adult graduate students pursuing continued education and career advancement.
Through more than 160 scholarship funds, the Knox County Foundation supports students pursuing a wide variety of educational and career paths, including associate, bachelor’s, technical, and doctoral degree programs.
“Scholarships are one of the many ways we invest in the future of our community,” said Kara Ernsberger, Program Coordinator at the Knox County Foundation. “These awards help remove financial barriers for students while encouraging them as they pursue their educational and career goals.”
For many recipients, the scholarships provide more than financial assistance — they provide confidence and opportunity.
“The Knox County Foundation has given me the financial stability I needed to enjoy college while pursuing my major,” said Madigan Caudill. “Thanks to their generosity, I am happy to say I am on track to graduate debt free.”
Emily Opfer, who is pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, said the scholarship program has supported her through both undergraduate and graduate studies.
“The Knox County Foundation scholarship has helped support me throughout my undergraduate and graduate level educational endeavors,” Opfer said. “I am so grateful for the support my community has provided me, and I could not be more grateful to be a part of the scholarship program.”
Scholarship recipients represented school districts across Knox County, including Mount Vernon, Fredericktown, Centerburg, East Knox, Danville, Utica, and additional surrounding schools.
The Knox County Foundation administers a wide range of scholarship funds established by individuals, families, businesses, and organizations who are passionate about investing in education and the future of local students.
