Community Foundation Awards Hickman Medical Scholarships
The Community Foundation of Mount Vernon & Knox County is pleased to announce that a total of $15,000 in medical scholarships has been distributed to seven Knox County residents from the Lillian C. Hickman Medical Scholarship Fund. The announcement was made by Bruce Hawkins, chairman of the Community Foundation.
Corinne Salva is a graduate of Fredericktown High School and attends Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine; Kelsey M. Durbin is a graduate of Danville High School and is attending The Ohio State University; Craig Sykes is a graduate of Centerburg High School and is attending Heidelberg University; Caleb White is graduate of Centerburg High School and is attending The Ohio State University; Sarah Tracey is a graduate of Mount Vernon High School and attending West Virginia University; and David Shafer is a graduate of Clear Fork High School and is attending Akron University.
Lillian Hickman was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School with dreams of entering the medical profession. However, due to a lack of finances, her dream went unfulfilled. Hickman then pursued a career in banking and was employed by the First-Knox National Bank for 45 years. She provided for this scholarship fund with a testamentary gift in 1996.
Applications for this scholarship will be available again in January 2013, and may be obtained by writing the Community Foundation of Mount Vernon & Knox County at P.O. Box 1270, One South Main Street, Mount Vernon, OH 43050; by calling (740) 392-3270, or by accessing the Foundation’s website at www.knoxcf.org. Recipients must be a current graduate medical, or undergraduate pre-medical students, with a preference for those pursuing family practice.
