Selection of 2012-13 Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) members has concluded with the naming of 18 new representatives from Knox County high schools and the home school community, Community Foundation Executive Director Sam Barone has announced.

True to the spirit of the initiative, selection of new members was conducted last month by the 11  youth members themselves, in cooperation with YPI Advisor Ellen Blanchard. Eighteen new members will join six returning YPIers next year, greatly expanding the breadth and depth of the organization.

YPI activity will resume in late August with an orientation for new members and planning for the year ahead. Preliminary plans include holding monthly YPI meetings onsite at various non-profit organizations in Knox County to better acquaint youth funders with operations at these agencies.

Last year the Youth Philanthropy Initiative awarded nearly $7,000 to support six different programs following interviews with eight prospective grantees, who had proposed projects with a youth-focus. It is anticipated this amount, or more, will again be available for youth-oriented grants to non-profit organizations when the YPI issues its second request for proposals in December of this year.
